Demonstratives are words that indicate which entities a speaker refers to, and distinguishes those entities from others. Persian has a two-way distinction between demonstratives:
- Proximal demonstratives indicate objects close to the speaker (e.g. English «this»).
- Distal demonstratives indicate objects removed from the speaker (e.g. English «that»).
