In Persian, an adjective can play the role of an adverb. Likewise, a comparative adjective of equality can function as a comparative adverb of equality. For instance, به آرامی can mean “as slow as” (adjective) and “as slowly as” (adverb) depending on the context. When it modifies a noun, it has an adjectival role. Otherwise, it has an adverbial role.

Structure

The comparative adverb of equality has the same structure as comparative adjective of equality. It is constructed by combining the preposition به (“be”) with a noun or an adjective plus suffix “-i” (which also forms a noun). See the comparative adjectives of equality for the details on the formation of nouns from adjectives using the suffix “-i”.
